Merry Christmas on Wall Street

Words and music copyright 1997 by Steve Brooks

CHORUS It's a merry Christmas on Wall Street,
While Main Street crashes and burns.
The economy's churning.
The brokers are earning
Money happy returns.

'Cause the Dow Jones is a-risin'
More than 30 percent in a year.
So billions of dollars in bonuses
Are sure to be spreading good cheer.
While everyone else is downsizing,
And driving the stock market higher.
There's a note that you'll get in your paycheck,
Saying, "Merry Christmas. You're fired."

CHORUS

They've had a depression in Asia.
The tigers are losing their claws.
Now here comes Uncle Sam to the rescue.
Who says that there's no Santa Claus?
It's a hundred billion in greenbacks
For bankers in Bangkok and Seoul.
While the the workers who work in their sweatshops
Will be lucky to get lumps of coal.

CHORUS

Should big investors be bailed out,
And never lose a dime?
For every day is Christmas Day
On the corporate welfare line.
