Let Her Live

Words copyright 1998 by Steve Brooks

In the state, in the state of Texas,
Lived a woman named Karla Faye.
She committed the crime of murder.
Now there's a price she's supposed to pay.

One day, and it won't be long now,
They'll strap that woman down,
Shoot her full of a deadly potion
And be sending her Heaven-bound.

CHORUS
Let her live, let her live, God save her.
Whatever deed she's done.
If it's wrong to kill Karla Tucker,
It's wrong to kill anyone.

Now the death penalty in Texas
The play it fast and loose
They killed 37 prisoners
And it hardly even made the news.

But it ain't just the same old liberals
Who want to spare her life.
She's been causing a big commotion
In the ranks of the Christian Right.

You see, Karla, she came to Jesus.
She found the King of Kings.
So Pat Robertson asked the Governor
To do the Christian thing.

And besides, she's a pretty woman.
And in case you're keeping score,
They ain't hung a girl in Texas
Since back in the Civil War.

CHORUS

Well, I pray that the Governor listens,
And opens up his mind.
'Cause an eye for an eye ain't justice,
'Cept in the Kingdom of the Blind.

And I pray that some Christian soldiers
Will learn from Karla, too,
And extend the hand of mercy
To Muslims and men and Jews.

CHORUS
