Hail to CoreStates Bank

Words and music copyright 1998 by Steve Brooks

Parting is a sweet, sweet sorrow -
So the poets say -
Here today and gone tomorrow,
Two weeks' severance pay.
But I can take a rear-view mirror look,
As I walk the plank.
For now I have this golden yearbook.
Hail to CoreStates Bank.

Tears are falling, helter-skelter,
Turning every page.
Remembering when human tellers
Worked in every cage.
I gave to thee my years of clover.
Now, I get my thanks -
Feeling like I've been run over
By a Sherman tank.

Golden moments I remember,
Written in the stone.
Taking people's legal tender,
Turning down their loans.

Lessons I have been accruing
Linger with me yet.
My next employer I'll be screwing
Every chance I get.
I know the way the bread is buttered,
And just where I rank,
And loyalty is just for suckers -
Hail to CoreStates Bank.
